A Call for Urgent Action: Addressing the Needs of Civil Servants, Rising Food Prices, and Insecurity in Nigeria"

I earnestly hope that President Tinubu does not disappoint us, and that we do not come to regret our support for his administration. While allocations to local and state governments have been increased by 100%, civil servants have yet to see the same benefit reflected in their wages. Since July, despite promises of a new minimum wage, it has not been implemented in their salaries. Now, with the October payroll issued, the promised minimum wage adjustment remains unfulfilled. This raises concerns about the commitment to truly improve the lives of civil servants, who are essential to our nation’s progress.

As a matter of urgency, President Tinubu must address three critical issues to uphold public trust and deliver on his administration’s promises:

1. Rising Food Prices: The escalating costs of food items are placing an enormous burden on Nigerian households. Immediate and targeted action is necessary to stabilize prices and ensure that citizens can afford basic necessities.

2. Implementation of the New Minimum Wage: Despite increased allocations to state and local governments, civil servants have yet to see the new minimum wage reflected in their salaries, even as the October payroll has been issued. Ensuring fair compensation is not only essential to the well-being of civil servants but is also a fundamental component of a productive workforce.

3. Addressing Insecurity: With two years into the administration, the safety of farmers and communities remains a major concern. Security agencies, including the military, civil defense corps, and other forces, must be galvanized to ensure that Nigerians can engage in agriculture and other productive activities without fear.

President Tinubu’s leadership is at a pivotal juncture. By urgently tackling these issues, he can not only improve living conditions but also strengthen confidence in his government’s commitment to meaningful change.
