ITV News Report On The Purported Ratification Of Hon. Billy Osawaru Illegal Suspension, Fake and Misleading.
The attention of the Billy Team has been drawn to an Independent Television News report/video making the rounds on social media stating that an illegal suspension of the Hon. Member representing the good people of Orhionmwon Uhunnwode federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru by the suspended individuals in Umagbae North Ward, Uhunnwode has been ratified by the Uhunnwode Local Government APC Executives.
The narration in the news report stating purported ratification is Fake, misleading, and a clear misrepresentation of reality. For clarity, the perpetrators of the illegal suspension of the federal lawmaker led by the erstwhile Chairman of Umagbae North Ward, Mr. Festus Aimerobhiye along with his co-travelers have since been suspended from the Ward by over two-thirds majority of the Ward Excos with a vote of no confidence passed on the Chairman for sundry allegations of incompetence, highhandedness and gross misconduct hence their illegal counter suspension can best be described as a futile attempt at grandstanding.
However, in activating the All Progress Congress's internal conflict resolution and mediation mechanism, an enlarged emergency meeting of the Local Government Excos and Ward Chairmen was called by the Local Government Party Chairman. The meeting, which was held on Thursday, the 17th day of October 2024, resolved that all parties involved in the Ward crisis should maintain the status quo. The meeting also set aside all petitions, suspension, and counter-suspension till after Senator Monday Okpebholo's inauguration as Governor of Edo State. This resolution was consequent upon the intervention of Leaders of the Party at the State level, pursuant of a peaceful resolution of the Ward 5 crisis.
It is, therefore, unfortunate that a media house like the Independent Television Network (ITV) Benin will broadcast such spurious and misleading news report and have it shared on social media. It is condemnable and unethical that a media house will not carry out factual due diligence in information verification before broadcast. The Billy Team will demand a retraction of the fake news with an apology.
For the avoidance of doubt, in the aforesaid meeting of the Uhunnwode APC Local government executives, ratification of the purported suspension wasn't part of the agenda. Party members, constituents, and the general public are enjoined to disregard the new report as it is fake news and not a reflection of the state of affairs in Umagbae North and Uhunnwode APC.
