Hon. Chief (Dr) Billy Famous Adesuwa Osawaru made a case for a functional Local Government Autonomy

 BREAKING NEWS:

Distinguished guests, honorable colleagues, and members of the Press, my name remain Hon. Chief (Dr) Billy Famous Adesuwa Osawaru, member representing Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Federal Constituency and i am very proud Benin Chief. it is an honor to stand before you today to discuss a matter of paramount importance to our nation's development. The issue of local government autonomy and constitutional amendment is one that has been at the forefront of our national discourse for many years, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that we get it right.

As we gather here today, we are not just representatives of our various constituencies; we are also custodians of the trust placed in us by the Nigerian people. It is our duty to ensure that the voices of our constituents are heard, their concerns are addressed, and their aspirations are translated into tangible reality.

The current state of our local governments is a far cry from what we envisioned when we embarked on this democratic journey. Our local governments are struggling to deliver basic services to the people due to the overbearing influence of state governments. This has resulted in a lack of accountability, transparency, and responsiveness at the local level.

This is why we must work together to create a constitutional framework that guarantees the autonomy of our local governments. We must ensure that our local governments have the financial and administrative independence to deliver services to the people. We must empower them to drive development and prosperity at the grassroots level.

The benefits of local government autonomy are numerous. It will enable our local governments to respond more effectively to the needs of their constituents. It will promote accountability, transparency, and good governance at the local level. It will also enable our local governments to tap into their creative potential, innovate, and drive development in their respective areas.

So, I urge all stakeholders to participate actively in this national dialogue. Let us work together to create a Nigeria where our local governments are empowered to drive development and prosperity at the grassroots level. Let us create a Nigeria where our people have access to basic services, where they can live in dignity, and where they can fulfill their potential.

We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to get this right. We owe it to ourselves to create a Nigeria that is just, equitable, and prosperous for all. So, let us rise to the challenge. Let us seize this moment. Let us work together to build a Nigeria that we can all be proud of.
