A First-Time Legislator Who Mastered The Ropes, Is Better Than Two Term Egocentric Loner

In the evolving political landscape of Ovia Federal Constituency, a fresh narrative is emerging—one that challenges long-held assumptions about experience and effectiveness in governance. Recent remarks from former legislator and aspiring representative have ignited discussions about the merits of first-time representatives versus seasoned politicians, highlighting how the former can indeed surpass the latter in effectiveness and public service.

OVIA DEMOCRATS, a prominent sociopolitical support group, took a decisive stand at a recent press conference, denouncing claims that first-time legislators are incapable of replicating the achievements of their predecessors. Their statements came in response to a misleading video that suggested past performance in office is an inherent predictor of future success. The group highlighted the fallacy in this assumption, arguing that achievements in public service should be measured by merit, competency, and dedication, not merely by tenure.

"In examining the political landscape of our time, it becomes clear that being a two-term legislator does not guarantee a positive impact,” noted a representative from OVIA DEMOCRATS during the conference. “Many first-time members of the Federal House of Representatives have distinguished themselves, demonstrating exceptional capabilities and exemplary service."

They pointed to Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa as a prime example. Elected during the 9th Assembly, Idahosa—dubbed "Mr. Project" by constituents and colleagues—has made a remarkable impact during his first term. His tenure is characterized by a proactive approach to governance, which included attracting people-oriented projects like skill acquisition centers, road rehabilitation, and healthcare facilities.

The OVIA DEMOCRATS' remarks serve as a necessary counter to the rhetoric of some self acclaimed experienced individuals seeking to reclaim their old seats based solely on their previous tenures. They firmly believe that true representation in a democratic system is defined by fulfilling the core functions: lawmaking, proper representation of the electorate, and driving development projects that enhance the quality of life for constituents.

Hon. Idahosa’s track record within the House is commendable. From his leadership as Chairman of the Committee on Legislative Compliance, he has actively sponsored motions, including urgent requests for repairs of critical infrastructures like the Ovia River Bridge and the construction of new bridges in Ovia North East. His commitment to bettering Ovia is clear, and his ability to secure funding for essential projects underscores the notion that effectiveness in public office is a function of effort and commitment, not just a count of years served.

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) gears up for the upcoming by-elections in Ovia, OVIA DEMOCRATS are advocating for a candidate selection process rooted in loyalty to the party, outstanding grassroots engagement, and proven competency. Their preferred candidate, Hon. Charity Uyimen Amayaenvbo, embodies the principles endorsed by the group, showcasing a preparedness to lead and represent the constituency's developmental aspirations fervently.

"Our focus should always remain on individuals who are not only experienced but also driven by a deep commitment to the electorate," the OVIA DEMOCRATS reiterated. "Misleading narratives that serve personal ambitions must be set aside so we can collectively support candidates who truly embody the spirit and values of Ovia."

In a political sphere often overshadowed by self-centered aspirations, the voices of OVIA DEMOCRATS signal a call to action—one that urges constituents and party members alike to prioritize integrity, competence, and the genuine interests of the Ovia Federal Constituency in their choices. As a new chapter unfolds, the contributions of first-time legislators like Hon. Charity Uyimen Amayaenvbo might very well redefine the standard of public service in the region, proving that new beginnings can indeed bear fruitful outcomes.
