Edo Government House Chapel Hosts Weekly Intercessory Prayer Meeting: A Renewed Faith

On the morning of Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the Government House Chapel in Edo State became a vibrant hub of spiritual fervor as Christian faithfuls and worshipers from around the region gathered for their weekly intercessory prayer meeting. The session was led by the esteemed chaplain of the chapel and Special Adviser to the Governor on Christian Religious Matters, Apostle (Dr.) Sule Faraday Azekhumen. The gathering was notably marked by a sermon on "The Prayer of Jabez," drawn from the Book of 1 Chronicles 4:10, which highlights themes of divine blessing, guidance, and protection.

"And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, 'Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!' And God granted him that which he requested," recited Apostle Azekhumen, underscoring the power of heartfelt prayer and faith in God's omnipotent will. He articulated that Jabez’s earnest plea serves as a profound model for devout prayer, a call for divine support and a request to be shielded from pain and suffering.

Expounding on the elements of Jabez's prayer, Apostle Azekhumen emphasized that blessings come solely from God, which requires believers to foster a personal relationship with Him, seek His leadership, and confront their fears with unwavering trust and vulnerability. He encouraged the congregation to allow their prayers to resonate sincerely, as true intercession is grounded in humility and faith.

During the service, Apostle Azekhumen invited several clergymen to lead the congregation in focused prayers for the state’s political leaders. Prominent among the attendees were Rev. Patrick Biose, Dr. Steve Leon, Apostle Balogun, Apostle Morgan, and Bishop Frank Ezele. Engr. Austin Emoh Echemoda, the president of the Edo Eye political support group, also joined in the intercessory prayers. These spiritual leaders offered supplications for the wellbeing of Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, his deputy Rt. Hon. Dennis Osagbemworue Idahosa, and all members of their cabinet as they navigate the complexities of governance.

Bishop Frank Ezele took the opportunity to declare that all opposition against Senator Okpebholo's mandate should be rendered ineffective before the tribunal judges, reinforcing the sentiments of support for the governor's administration.

The atmosphere was imbued with a spirit of expectation and triumph as Apostle Azekhumen urged participants to nullify any negative sentiment or obstacle threatening the success of the current administration. "Whatever news or situation that is not palatable for the success of this administration should be nullified and repackaged for positive testimony for the governor and the people of Edo State in Jesus' mighty name," he proclaimed passionately.

Dr. Steve Leon rallied the congregation to extend their hands in prayer for the chaplain himself, using him as a point of contact for the State Governor, invoking God’s peace and divine favor upon Edo State and the ongoing election petitions.

In a show of solidarity, members of the Edo Eye group, led by Engr. Austin Emoh Echemoda, converged at the chapel, culminating their fasting and prayer exercise aimed at supporting the governor and his deputy in the election petitions. This communal effort reflects a growing tide of political engagement coupled with spiritual intercession among the constituents of Edo State.

As the intercessory service drew to a close, Apostle Azekhumen reiterated the importance of collective prayer and the need for continued support for the leaders elected to serve the people. He encouraged the faithful to make a commitment to participate in the weekly meetings, now scheduled for Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m., as a means of sustaining their spiritual journey and collective partnership in governance.

The prayer gathering was well attended, with an impressive turnout featuring clergymen, devoted Christians, APC party members, and loyal supporters of Governor Okpebholo's administration, all eager to seek divine intervention for peace, progress, and prosperity in Edo State.
