EDO STATE GOVERNOR'S SPECIAL ADVISER ON OIL AND GAS, FELIX OSEMWENGIE ISERE, CONDUCTS FACT-FINDING VISIT TO URHONIGBE COMMUNITY OVER OIL EXPLORATION CONCERNS
FELIX OSEMWENGIE ISERE, ESQ, SPECIAL ADVISER TO THE EDO STATE GOVERNOR ON OIL AND GAS FACT-FINDING VISIT TO URHONIGBE COMMUNITY OVER CONCERNS OF OIL EXPLORATION WITHOUT EDO STATE AND THE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.
In line with the commitment of Senator Monday Okpebholo’s administration proactive style of governance and his determination to protect the interests of Edo State and its people, the Special Adviser to Edo State Governor on Oil and Gas, Hon. Felix Osemwengie Isere, Esq led a delegation on a fact-finding visit to the Urhonigbe community to engage with community leaders and members regarding ongoing oil exploration activities.
During the visit, they also inspected the proposed oil exploration site currently under construction. Preliminary findings indicate that Platform Oil Limited is the company involved. However, it has come to our attention that two communities in Delta State are laying claim to the area in question and the land were bought from them with all royalties and benefits to them and Delta State, despite the site appearing to be located in Edo State because it is situated before the River Erhiope, which marks the boundary between Edo and Delta States when going from Uronigbe.
The governor of Edo State takes issues like this matter seriously and will not tolerate any encroachment or marginalization of its communities. Governor Monday Okpebholo will be briefed on our findings, and as a proactive governor, be rest assured necessary steps will be taken to ensure that the rights and interests of Edo State and the Urhonigbe community are fully protected.
He urged all stakeholders to remain calm as the government will engage all relevant authorities to resolve the issue in the best interest of Edo State and it
s people.
