Double Standards on Loans: A Message to PDP Critics

It is ironic that the same individuals who are now criticizing Governor Monday Okpebholo for securing a loan are the very ones who praised and defended Governor Obaseki’s borrowing day and night—on social media.

Let’s be clear, Obaseki borrowed in secrecy. Edo people were never fully informed about how those loans were utilized. Some of those loans were reportedly signed off behind closed doors with just a few members of the House of Assembly, completely bypassing transparency and due process.

In contrast, Governor Okpebholo has approached this differently. He publicly wrote to the Edo State House of Assembly, clearly outlining the purpose of the loan ensuring transparency and accountability from the onset.

What happened to the $75 million World Bank Education Loan collected under Obaseki? What visible impact did it have on our educational system? To this day, no one can point to a single, tangible result from that loan. And yet, some of the same voices that stayed silent back then now have the audacity to criticize openly.

For the first time in years, we are witnessing genuine prioritization of education in Edo State thanks to the efforts of Governor Okpebholo and the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu. If we had someone like Dr. Paddy in charge of education in the past, our public schools might already be rivaling private institutions today.

Governor Okpebholo’s developmental plan is clear, transparent, and people-focused. The results will speak for themselves.

He is on the right path and Edo people are happy
