The Honourable Member representing Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru, on Tuesday, June 4th, 2025, warmly received Dr. Mrs. Loretta Oduware Ogboro-Okor, the Director General of the Edo State Diaspora Agency (ESDA), alongside her Management team, during a courtesy visit to the People’s Office at the National Assembly, Abuja.

The visit, which was marked by a shared vision of leveraging Diaspora engagement for the development of the State, centered on exploring collaborative avenues of partnership between the Office of the Federal Lawmaker and the Edo State Diaspora Agency. 

During the visit, Hon. Osawaru commended the very hard-working Dr. Mrs. Ogboro-Okor for her transformative initiatives and how she has repositioned the ESDA (in just a few months at the helms) for improved interactions between the Diaspora Community and Edo State. He noted that the role of the diaspora community in national development cannot be overemphasized and reaffirmed his commitment to policies that will harness the wealth of knowledge, skills, and resources of Edo indigenes abroad for increased remittances.

Mrs. Ogboro-Okor, in her remark, highlighted ESDA’s efforts in connecting Edo Diaspora Communities with development opportunities in the state and emphasized the importance of synergy with legislative stakeholders like Hon. Osawaru. She added that Edo State indigenes are amongst the most traveled in Nigeria, with their remittances accounting for over 30% of the total yearly Diaspora remittances to Nigeria. She expressed the desire to further harness these unique opportunities and more for the benefit of the State.

As diasporans for decades who have garnered sufficient global experience and exposure, Hon. Osawaru and Dr. Mrs Ogboro Okor agreed to work more closely on strategic initiatives in this familiar turf, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and diaspora investment, underscoring  Hon. Osawaru’s dedication to collaboration, inclusiveness, and effective representation.
