Edo APC Diaspora Media Group Raises Concerns Over Lack of Recognition

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may be facing internal discontent as its Diaspora Media Group has expressed concerns over what it described as a lack of recognition from Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration.

In a statement signed by leaders of the group including Taju Omoruyi, Alasa Braimoh, Desmond Osazuwa, and Rita Egharevba (Analyser), the Diaspora Media Group outlined its role in the APC’s 2023–2024 governorship campaign and highlighted areas where they feel their efforts have not been adequately acknowledged.

Highlights of the Group’s Concerns

• The group was among the first to endorse Senator Okpebholo during the APC primaries in 2023.
• It played a significant role in publicizing his candidacy across Nigeria and abroad.
• Members committed personal financial resources, organized structured media campaigns, and mobilized Edo sons and daughters in the diaspora to participate in campaign activities.
• They claim to have contributed to shaping the campaign narrative and rallying voter support during the election.
• Despite these efforts, they allege that none of their members have been considered for appointments or official recognition since the governor assumed office.
• The group also cited unacknowledged sacrifices, including hosting the governor during his visit to the United States and mobilizing resources for his campaign events.

Position of the Group

While expressing disappointment, the Diaspora Media Group affirmed its continued loyalty to the APC and Governor Okpebholo.

“We remain committed to the party and to the administration of Governor Okpebholo. However, we believe that loyalty and sacrifice should be acknowledged to strengthen unity and sustain confidence within the party,” the statement read.

Political observers note that the concerns raised reflect the wider challenge of managing expectations and balancing interests after electoral victory. Analysts suggest that Governor Okpebholo may need to engage with key stakeholder groups, such as the Diaspora Media team, to maintain cohesion within the APC in Edo State.
