BUA REFINERY: A NEW INDUSTRIAL POWERHOUSE RISING IN AKWA IBOM

Nigeria’s industrial landscape is on the brink of another major transformation as the BUA Refinery and Petrochemical Project takes shape in Akwa Ibom State. With an impressive refining capacity of 200,000 barrels per day, this state-of-the-art facility is poised to redefine the nation’s oil and gas sector, strengthen energy independence, and create a new wave of industrial competitiveness.

Strategically situated across three sites — one in Atabrikang, Eastern Obolo Local Government Area, and the other two in Ikot Abasi LGA — the refinery is positioned to leverage its proximity to feedstock sources and export routes. This prime location ensures efficient supply chain management and access to both local and international markets, making it a key contributor to Nigeria’s refining capacity and economic growth.

The refinery, now 50% completed, is designed to produce Euro-V standard fuels, including premium gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, as well as polypropylene, a vital component in plastics manufacturing. Its integrated petrochemical unit underscores BUA’s vision for industrial diversification and sustainable value addition within Nigeria’s downstream oil sector.

Upon completion, the BUA Refinery is expected to stand as a formidable rival to the Dangote Refinery, further positioning Nigeria as a self-reliant energy hub in Africa. More importantly, it will boost job creation, enhance technological advancement, and strengthen the nation’s export profile. With this project, BUA Group once again demonstrates its commitment to driving economic growth, innovation, and industrial excellence in Nigeria.
