Consultant Surgeon Donates Medical Supplies to UBTH to Advance Patient Care

Benin City, Nigeria — October 15, 2025

In a remarkable gesture aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery, Mr. Emmanuel Eguare, Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon, and Clinical Director at NAAS General Hospital, Ireland, has donated a wide range of medical equipment and consumables to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

Mr. Eguare, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), said the donation was inspired by his desire to alleviate some of the challenges faced by doctors and other healthcare professionals due to the scarcity of essential medical supplies in public health institutions.

“This donation marks the first of many similar gestures to come. The hospital is close to my heart. Use the donated items to the very best for patients to benefit maximally,” he stated.

“This is the very beginning of my collaboration with UBTH. We can do a lot together. We need to embrace Internet and virtual platforms to boost our partnership,” he added.

During the presentation ceremony, Mr. Eguare commended the management and medical experts at UBTH for their steadfast commitment, professionalism, and resilience despite the limitations in resources.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof. Stanley Okugbo, expressed profound appreciation to Mr. Eguare for his generosity and unwavering dedication to supporting UBTH’s vision of excellence in healthcare delivery and medical education.

Also in attendance were eminent medical professionals, including Prof. Clement Osime, Consultant Surgical Oncologist, and Dr. Irowa Omorodion, Consultant General Surgeon, among others.
