Hon Osawaru Demands Accountability from FERMA Over Neglected South-South Federal Roads.
NASS, Abuja.
The Chairman of the House adhoc committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and Member representing the good people of Orhionmwon and Uhunmwonde Federal Constituency, Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru, has expressed deep frustration over the deplorable condition of federal roads across the South-South region, especially the Calabar axis, despite years of budgetary allocations and repeated assurances from FERMA.
Speaking during a committee session with representatives of the agency at the National Assembly, Hon. Osawaru lamented that persistent promises and funding over the years have not yielded tangible results, describing the situation as “a continuing source of hardship and disappointment” for Nigerians in the region.
The lawmaker emphasized that the people of Cross River State and the entire South-South zone deserve better, insisting that the committee will no longer tolerate excuses or half-measures from agencies entrusted with road maintenance.
Representing the Managing Director of FERMA at the session was Mr. Yusman Mohammed, a director in the agency, who was unable to provide key documents requested by the committee concerning several ongoing and completed projects.
Displeased by the development, Hon. Osawaru directed FERMA’s Managing Directo, the Director of Finance and Administration and all departmental heads to appear before the committee with all relevant documents.
The committee chairman subsequently adjourned the meeting, emphasizing that the House would not compromise its oversight responsibility and would demand full accountability for every kobo appropriated for road maintenance.
