NIGERIA CIVIL SOCIETY GROUP LAUDS HON. ENGR. GABRIEL IDUSERI, PARTNERS OREDO LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL ON TRANSPARENCY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE

 


Members of the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, in conjunction with Josemaria Escriva Foundation, led by Dr Jude Obasume, were at the Council Secretariat recently, on a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Council, Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri.


Dr.Obasume thanked His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for bringing governance closer to the people with Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri at the helm of affairs, stressing that Oredo as the pivotal Local Government Area, which plays host to the Palace of the highly esteemed Oba of Benin, the Government House, and the House of Assembly, the group felt the need to partner the Council as it relates to monitoring transparency in budgetary implementation system.


Dr. Obasume commended the Council Boss, Hon. Iduseri, for his leadership strides, while suing for collaboration with the Council through the department of Budget,Works and Information to ease information dissemination in budgetary procedures which the group stands for, adding that the group's Community Governance Committee has been trained effectively monitor government budgetary reports, to ensure transparency.


Responding, Hon Engr.Gabriel Iduseri thanked the group for their contributions at ensuring information dissemination as it concerns government budgetary systems both at the Federal, State and Local. He however informed the group that the Council operates a very transparent administrative and budgetary system inline with the established Local Government regulations as it concerns transparency and good governance. 


The Council Boss also noted that upon assumption of office, he set up the Council's 'Blue Print Committee' to go round the twelve wards of Oredo, to ascertain the needs of the people. Hon. Iduseri however enjoined the group to include sensitization on the dangers of Drug Abuse in their advocacy programmes, stressing that the campaign against drug abuse should not be left to the government alone but to parents, civil society groups, schools and religious bodies.
