BUDGET OF HOPE AND GROWTH: BUILDING A STRONGER, SAFER AND MORE PROSPEROUS EDO STATE
Today marks another defining moment in Edo State’s journey of renewal and transformation as the 2026 Appropriation Bill of ₦939.85 billion, aptly christened the Budget of Hope and Growth, was formally presented to the Edo State House of Assembly. This budget is not just a financial document; it is a bold statement of purpose, vision, and unwavering commitment to people-centred governance under the SHINE Agenda.
Building on the solid foundation laid in 2025, the 2026 budget reflects stronger revenue performance, improved fiscal discipline, and a clear resolve to translate government policies into tangible benefits for Edo people. It captures the collective aspiration of a government determined to consolidate gains while accelerating development across all sectors.
In the outgoing year, security remained a foremost priority. The government took decisive and courageous steps to ensure Edo State did not become a safe haven for criminal elements. Through strengthened legal frameworks, improved security logistics, and the recruitment of 2,500 officers into the Edo State Security Corps, peace and stability were significantly restored. These strategic interventions led to a noticeable reduction in insecurity, renewed public confidence, and a safer environment for businesses and communities to thrive.
Beyond security, 2025 witnessed remarkable progress in critical sectors. Healthcare delivery was strengthened, infrastructure development gained momentum, agricultural productivity received renewed attention, and the education sector recorded notable improvements—laying a solid platform for inclusive growth and sustainable development.
The 2026 Budget of Hope and Growth is deliberately structured to deepen these achievements. With over 68% of the budget allocated to capital projects, the focus is firmly on long-term impact and economic expansion. Key priorities include:
Massive investment in infrastructure, including new roads and flyovers to enhance connectivity and ease of movement;
Upgrading and expanding schools and healthcare facilities to improve service delivery and human capital development;
Strengthening agricultural investment to boost food security, support farmers, and create jobs;
Driving economic growth and job creation initiatives that empower youths, support SMEs, and stimulate private sector participation.
