CHIEF (DR.) BILLY FAMOUS OSAWARU CHAMPIONS LIFESAVING HEALTHCARE AT UGU WARD FREE MEDICAL OUTREACH

In a clear demonstration of purposeful and people-oriented leadership, Chief (Dr) Billy Famous Osawaru, Member representing Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency at the 10th National Assembly, fully sponsored a Free Medical Outreach held yesterday at Erherhue Community in Ugu Ward, Or

hionmwon Local Government Area, in commiseration with the Ugu Youths Conference 2025. 

The outreach, which attracted over 220 beneficiaries, was designed to directly confront the growing burden of preventable diseases through timely medical intervention and health education.

Anchored on the theme *“Early Detection Saves Lives: Combating Silent Killers in Our Society,”* the outreach featured impactful health talks with strong emphasis on early disease detection. Participants were full sensitised on Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, Prostate Cancer, and Breast Cancer; conditions that often progress silently but carry severe consequences when diagnosed late. The interactive sessions allowed community members to ask questions, gain clarity, and dispel long-held misconceptions about these diseases.

The medical exercise went beyond talks, offering free general and specialist medical consultations, vital signs assessment, blood glucose screening, prostate cancer screening for men above 40 years, free eye screening with distribution of glasses, Administration of prescribed medications and a structured referral system for secondary and tertiary care where necessary. This comprehensive approach ensured that beneficiaries not only received immediate care but were also properly guided for further treatment when indicated.

The outreach was met with overwhelming appreciation from the people and youths of Ugu Ward, who praised Chief Billy Osawaru for his consistency, compassion, and unwavering commitment to grassroots wellbeing. Notably, the Ugu Ward outreach is the third free medical outreach organised in Orhionmwon Local Government Area within the last one year, following similar interventions at Sokponba and Abudu communities, further reinforcing the lawmaker’s sustained investment in community health.

Once again, Chief Billy Osawaru has demonstrated that effective representation transcends policy and politics, finding true expression in initiatives that protect lives, restore hope, and bring quality healthcare closer to the people.
