UBTH COMMISSIONS 160-SLICE CT SCAN MACHINE DONATED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN
The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin City, today commissioned a 160-Slice Computed Tomography (CT) Scan Machine at its Department of Radiology, marking a significant boost to advanced diagnostic capacity in Edo State and the South-South region.
The commissioning was led by the Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Idia N. Ize-Iyamu, in the presence of key government officials, including the Edo State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Etin-Osa Ogbeiwi, and the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Mrs. Eugenia Abdullah, alongside other dignitaries.
The state-of-the-art CT Scan Machine was donated by the Government of Japan, reflecting the strong bilateral relations between Japan and Nigeria and a shared commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure, enhancing diagnostic accuracy, and improving access to quality medical services.
In his remarks, the Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, expressed appreciation to the Government of Japan, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the management and staff of UBTH for their sustained efforts in promoting efficient and patient-centred healthcare delivery. He noted that the intervention will significantly enhance early diagnosis, effective treatment planning, and improved health outcomes for residents of Edo State and beyond.
A guided tour of the facility was conducted by the CMD, during which the already installed and fully operational CT Scan Machine was showcased to invited guests.
Speaking further, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Etin-Osa Ogbeiwi, stated that UBTH remains one of the few tertiary health institutions in the South-South equipped with diagnostic technology of this standard, reinforcing its role as a leading centre for medical excellence and innovation.
The commissioning of the CT Scan Machine underscores the commitment of the Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with international partners, to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring the delivery of qualitative, accessible, and sustainable healthcare services across the country.
