From Sanctimonious Platitudes to a Campaign of Calumny; The Two-Faced Posture of the Washington Media Handlers.

 

Our attention has been drawn to the recent circulation, across various political WhatsApp platforms, of videos and images from a period when crisis, division, and internal disagreements temporarily unsettled the structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Uhunmwode Chapter.

Ordinarily, such historical materials would be regarded as relics of a difficult chapter in the party’s evolution, moments that responsible leaders and loyal party members have since worked diligently to overcome in the spirit of reconciliation, unity, and progress. However, in a mischievous and grossly unethical attempt to smear the glowing reputation and the growing acceptance of Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru among the good people of Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Federal Constituency, certain desperate elements have chosen to unearth these materials and deliberately distort their context and erroneously, narrate the content.

In their latest campaign of calumny, these merchants of misinformation have now twisted the narrative, falsely and heinously tagging the incumbent federal lawmaker as the sponsor or instigator of the contents of the circulated videos that depict isolated moments of violence during that turbulent period in the party’s past. 

This allegation is not only patently false but also malicious, calculated, and intended solely to mislead unsuspecting constituents, party faithful, and indeed, the general public.

What is even more revealing about this desperate propaganda is that it reflects a camp that appears bereft of a coherent campaign strategy, (except for purchased endorsements), devoid of a contrite message, and unable to present any tangible record of achievement from previously occupied public offices of its principal. Faced with this glaring deficit, the media handler of the former Commissioner has now descended to an even lower level of political discourse.

In a further display of desperation, they have also resorted to sharing an old video featuring the emotionally charged outburst of a well-known lady mechanic and an unfortunate episode arising from what was once a personal, consensual relationship between two adults which later turned sour. As is often the case in emotionally sensitive circumstances, several allegations were exaggerated in the heat of the moment. More importantly, that matter has long since been resolved and laid to rest by the parties directly involved.

It is, therefore, both amusing and pitiable that media handlers and supporters of the former Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation would now choose to resurrect and amplify a matter that the supposed principal actors themselves have already moved beyond. In doing so, they are clearly crying louder than the bereaved.

For discerning observers and enlightened spectators of the political space, such tactics only expose the poverty of ideas within that camp. Instead of engaging party stakeholders and constituents with constructive alternatives or presenting a credible record of service, they have chosen the path of distraction, sensationalism, and character assassination.

Yet the fundamental question remains unanswered: What relevance does the peddling of such a video have to the outstanding legislative performance of Hon. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru, or to the broader conversation about the necessity of his re-election for a second term due to his impressive track record? The answer, quite simply, is none.

Indeed, an interesting aspect of this unfolding spectacle is the glaring contradiction it reveals. Just a fortnight ago, an article authored by one of the media handlers of the same former Commissioner went viral across several online platforms. In that article, through the clever deployment of sanctimonious platitudes and carefully crafted moral posturing, the author attempted to preach the virtues of civility, issue-based campaigns, and the need to elevate political discourse above the mudslinging that often characterizes electoral contests, stressing that this is still an intraparty affair as those who live in glasshouses shouldn't throw stones... Blah, blah, blah!

However, events of the past few days have exposed that sermon for what it truly was, a mere rhetoric without conviction. The same voices that pretended to advocate decency in political engagement have now become the loudest promoters of smear campaigns, falsehood, and deliberate misrepresentations.

Such glaring double standards betray a two-faced posture that the people of Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode are far too discerning to ignore. This dramatic irony further shows the character of the team, their methods, the desperation of their principal, and why attempts at trusting these double standard sect will be a high-risk venture.

The truth remains that Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru’s record in the National Assembly speaks for itself. His visible projects, empowerment initiatives, legislative contributions, and consistent engagement with constituents across both local government areas stand as verifiable evidence of purposeful representation. No amount of exhumed videos, recycled propaganda, distorted narratives, or orchestrated distractions can erase the tangible impact of effective leadership that the people continue to witness and enjoy.

Ultimately, the primary elections are decided not by the noise of propaganda machines but by the judgment of the constituents, and party faithfuls. When that moment of decision arrives, the good people of Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode will undoubtedly distinguish between genuine service and desperate theatrics, between visible results and empty track record/promises. They will decide between exceptional performance and one with the penchant for sacrificing productive opportunities on the altar of self-centered ambition.

History has shown repeatedly that truth endures while falsehood, no matter how loudly amplified, eventually collapses under the weight of its own contradictions. The people are watching, the facts are clear, and the verdict of the electorate will, in due time, render every campaign of calumny utterly futile.
