If care is not taken, the handling of the Edo South senatorial ticket by the All Progressives Congress may create avoidable tension and disunity within the party.

Considering the level of sacrifice, loyalty, and contribution that Osagie Ize-Iyamu has made toward the growth and political development of Edo South and Edo State at large, it is both unfair and disrespectful to subject him to unnecessary humiliation over the senatorial ticket. This is someone who has consistently invested his time, resources, and political capital in strengthening the party, even in difficult times.

It is, therefore, an aberration for anyone to suggest that such a figure should be sidelined or made to compete under conditions that diminish his standing, especially in favor of individual who is a well known boy-boy to an external godfather with less politically lexperienced. 

Attempting to elevate a political “boy-boy” over a well-established leader does not only undermine merit but also sends a dangerous signal about how loyalty and hard work are rewarded within the party.

The question must also be asked: why is Edo South always the zone subjected to this kind of political manipulation? If the senatorial tickets for Edo North and Edo Central cannot be determined or influenced by external godfathers, then Edo South should not be treated as an exception. Equity, fairness, and consistency must guide every party’s internal decisions.

While personal opinions about Osagie Ize-Iyamu may differ, it is undeniable that he remains a dominant political figure, to many, the face of Edo South politics today. Any attempt to sideline him could trigger serious backlash and weaken the party’s structure in the region. Such a move may not only affect party unity but could also mark the beginning of a decline in political influence..

Leaders of the party must tread carefully. Decisions should not be driven by imposition or external influence but by consultation, respect for stakeholders, and recognition of those who have paid their dues. Politics should not be reduced to favoritism at the expense of credibility and experience.

In conclusion, it would be more honorable for the party leadership to engage with and accord due respect to figures like Ize-Iyamu rather than creating unnecessary conflict. If unity and electoral success are truly the goals, then fairness must prevail in the allocation of the Edo South senatorial ticket.
