As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, a leading Edo South Senatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, on Monday visited leaders of Ugboko Ward in Orhionmwon Local Government Area.

During the engagement, Ize-Iyamu formally declared his intention to contest for the Edo South Senatorial seat, emphasizing the importance of informing his grassroots leaders directly.

“I am here to formally declare my intention to run for Senate. It would not be appropriate for my ward leaders to hear this from outsiders, so I deemed it necessary to visit my people first,” he said.

He stressed that Orhionmwon Local Government deserves representation at the Senate, noting that the area has yet to produce a senator.

“The good people of Orhionmwon deserve representation in the Senate. We have never had anyone represent us in the Red Chamber,” he added.

Highlighting the vast natural resources in the area, Ize-Iyamu called for focused leadership to harness these opportunities for development.

“With the abundant natural resources in Orhionmwon, we need a focal point—someone who can galvanize these potentials for the benefit of our people. We need a representative with strong connections at the Presidency and National Assembly to attract meaningful development to the seven local governments in Edo South,” he stated.

He urged unity and support for his aspiration, promising impactful representation in key sectors.

“We must rally around ourselves and support this aspiration. Our people need meaningful impact in infrastructure, healthcare, and education, in line with the SHINE Agenda of our dynamic Governor, Monday Okpebholo,” he said.

“I will be your servant, committed to serving our people. The change we seek lies in our collective determination for a better Orhionmwon and Edo South.”

In response, the Ugboko Ward leader assured Ize-Iyamu of the ward’s full support, describing him as a distinguished son of the soil and a seasoned political strategist. Prayers were also offered for the success of his ambition.

Other Ugboko ward leaders, including the Ward Chairman, Mr. Henry Obe echoed similar sentiments in their separate remarks, pledging their backing for his senatorial bid.

The meeting climaxed with a motion of endorsement in support of Pastor Ize-Iyamu’s aspiration, which was unanimously seconded by the ward leaders.

Prominent personalities at the meeting included Hon. Bright Iyamu, member representing Orhionmwon South Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly; Hon. Etin-osa Ogbeiwi, Commissioner for Science and Technology; former Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Roland Asoro; Former House of Representatives member for Ovia Federal Constituency, Hon. Isaac Osahon; Former Edo APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris Azebamwen; Hon. Patrick Osayimwen and Amb. Terry Igiebor
