RE; The Misleading And Malicious Narratives On Oza Community Borehole, Orhionmwon Facilitated By Hon. Chief Billy Adesuwa Osawaru, Facts Over Fallacy.

 

One sad aspect of politics in Nigeria is that stakeholders who are supposed to be agents and partners in progressive representation often become antagonistic to a performing representative, not because of non-performance, but because the Representative hasn't kowtowed to their retrogressive whims and caprices.

This explains the ordeal, the member representing Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Chief Billy Adesuwa Osawaru, is facing with the wrath of some regressive and disgruntled APC party stakeholders. While opposition political parties, political analysts and observers, socio-political, gender, and youth-based organizations, members of the grassroots, and constituents are full of commendation and eulogies for the sterling performance of the proud Benin Chief, a few APC leaders in his constituency are busy sponsoring smear campaigns against him. Hon Osawaru's offence?

He chose to do the right thing against the old order by prioritizing collective interest over personal or individual interest.

In prioritizing the interest of the collective, especially at the grassroots, and upon completion of a thorough community Needs Assessment, Hon. Osawaru facilitated numerous constituency projects to several communities, evenly distributed to the twin local government areas of the federal constituency vis-à-vis their identified needs.

This was how Hon. Osawaru attracted a borehole project to the Oza Community, amongst other impactful projects, having seen that the community lacks a functional Borehole that ought to serve the portable water needs of rural dwellers.

At this juncture, it is instructive to note that the Community (Oza), in Orhionmwon, is the hometown of the immediate past two-term House of Reps member who served in the 8th and 9th assemblies of the National Assembly. If it took Hon. Osawaru less than two years in office to see the need to facilitate the installation of a borehole in Oza, something that his predecessor, a son of Oza, couldn't see in eight years of his representation, it goes to show how horrendous his representation and record of stewardship were. Such an abysmal record should ordinarily make the supposed former lawmaker and his co-travellers hide their heads in shame, seeing the manifestation of what he couldn't do that he ought to have done. 

Instead, these shameless individuals have gone on social and conventional media to spin narratives, twist the story, and manufacture lies to tarnish the image and reputation of the incumbent member, Hon. Chief Dr Billy Adesuwa Osawaru.

One of the false stories that has gone viral is the Hon. Billy Osawaru's facilitated Oza Borehole project, alleging that the project was a sham. It is interesting to note that Hon. Osawaru facilitated the drilling and Installation of over 10 Boreholes spread across Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode federal constituency. 80% of these boreholes have been completed and are functionally in use. The 20% left are ongoing, at the completion stage, but due to some new modifications to the initial design necessitated by some ecological and structural challenges, it ought to have been completed. This is the category that the Oza water project falls into.

To buttress the fact that Hon. Billy Osawaru's approach to leadership and democratic representation is anchored on accountability and transparency, when the merchants of smear campaigns invited journalists from a local TV station to do a news report on the issue, Hon. Osawaru in a telephone interview with the reporter, admitted that the project was an ongoing one, soon to be completed, while assuring of its timely completion and commissioning.

Now, after that honest answer, isn't it obvious that these elements are playing dirty politics with the serious issue of development, infrastructure, and service to the people?

For clarity, the Oza water project is an ongoing one that will soon be completed for the use and benefit of constituents. The general public is advised to ignore the heinous lies, misleading narratives, and mischievous stories. They are the shameless handiwork of fraudsters trying to impishly defray public opinion by maligning the reputation of Hon. Osawaru, who has been adjudged as the best Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode have ever produced.

In all, criticisms are better appreciated from performers, owing to their record of achievements, but when such criticisms come from the camp of a complete failure who couldn't give his immediate community water in eight years yet criticize genuine and tangible efforts? It becomes a mockery, a clownish display, something akin to dancing naked in the market square at midday, and scoring a political own goal.
