STOP THE VICTIMISATION Of PARTY MEMBERS: A CALL FOR RESTRAINT, UNITY, AND PARTY DISCIPLINE IN EDO STATE APC

The Edo South senatorial primary has come and gone, and as expected in any vibrant democracy, different tendencies supported different aspirants. That is the essence of internal party politics. However, it is deeply disturbing that in the aftermath of the exercise, there are growing reports of victimization of party members and government appointees being relieved of their positions, suspended, or harassed simply because of where they stood during the primaries.

We must remind ourselves that primaries are internal contests, not acts of rebellion. Supporting one aspirant over another within the same political party is not anti-party activity; it is participation in democracy. When loyal members are punished for exercising their legitimate political preference within the party, it sends a dangerous signal to the grassroots and weakens the very structure we need to win future elections.

This development is particularly troubling given that we are approaching the 2027 general election. At a time when reconciliation, healing, and consolidation should be our focus, actions that create fear and resentment will only fracture the party further. A divided house cannot mobilize effectively, and bitterness within our ranks will only benefit our opponents.

We respectfully call on the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, as the leader of the party in the state, to urgently intervene and call those responsible to order. Leadership demands magnanimity, especially after a contest. Rather than punitive measures, this is the moment for inclusion, dialogue, and strategic unity. Strength is demonstrated not by suppression, but by the ability to unify after competition.

The All Progressives Congress in Edo State has been built through years of sacrifice and commitment by thousands of loyal members. It must not be weakened by post-primary reprisals. Let us close ranks, respect internal democracy, and focus on the larger goal ahead. After primaries must come partnership. For the sake of the party, and for the success of 2027, unity must prevail.

For the sake of the party.

For the sake of 2027.

For the sake of unity.
