The Edo State Parks and Gardens Agency is set to introduce the Early Greenery Club (EGC) across Secondary Schools in Edo State — a bold environmental initiative designed to raise a new generation of environmentally conscious leaders and sustainability advocates.

 

The Early Greenery Club is more than just a school club. It is a movement created to reconnect young minds with nature, instill environmental responsibility, and equip students with practical knowledge in tree planting, nursery management, landscaping and environmental beautification.

Through structured learning, practical trainings and hands-on participation, students will not only learn about environmental sustainability, but will actively practice it by nurturing trees and managing plant nurseries established within their schools. This initiative is designed to help young people understand that protecting the environment is not the responsibility of government alone, but a collective duty that begins with every individual and every community.

In a time where climate change, flooding, erosion and environmental degradation continue to affect our society, the Early Greenery Club stands as a proactive step towards building environmentally responsible future generations who will preserve, protect and beautify their environment.

The initiative also seeks to build values beyond environmental awareness. Through the process of planting and nurturing trees, students will develop discipline, patience, leadership, teamwork and a stronger sense of community ownership. These are values that extend beyond the classroom and into society.

Students involved in the club will serve as young environmental ambassadors within their schools and communities — taking the message of sustainability beyond school walls and inspiring others to embrace greener and healthier lifestyles.

This transformative initiative is being driven under the SHINE Agenda of Monday Okpebholo, whose administration continues to prioritize environmental sustainability, youth development and community transformation across Edo State.
