HAPPY DEMOCRACY DAY, NIGERIANS!

 June 12th, 2026

As a people, we are shaped by our history, peculiarities, and collective experiences. Our journey, marked by moments of military rule and civil struggle, has shown us that, despite its imperfections, democracy remains the most effective form of governance. For the past 27 years, Nigeria’s democratic system has endured, giving the people both a voice and a choice.

The legislature stands as the bedrock of any true democracy. It is the channel through which the people are heard and represented. It is an institution entrusted with the vital responsibilities of lawmaking, oversight, and the promotion of good governance through checks and balances. As a federal legislator, I remain committed to democratic ideals and principles. Each day, I am driven by a deep passion for building an egalitarian society founded on fairness, equity, and justice.

As we commemorate this year’s Democracy Day, let us pay solemn and glowing tribute to our democratic heroes, both living and departed. Their courage, sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering advocacy paved the way for the freedom we enjoy today. These national heroes stood firm in the face of oppression and gave selflessly for the cause of liberty. We salute their courage and honor their legacy.

Let us renew our faith in Nigeria and her boundless potential. Though we may differ in tribe and tongue, in unity and brotherhood we must continue to stand. Together, let us build a nation where no one is oppressed, where every citizen has a place and a voice. I urge us to improve our civic participation and have faith in the renewed Hope Agenda, which is gradually and painstakingly reforming the land. 

To the industrious people of Edo State, let's continue to support the laudable strides of our pragmatic Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, as he relentlessly makes Edo State SHINE again.

Happy Democracy Day to all Nigerians, and especially to the good people of Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency, whose mandate I proudly carry at the 10th National Assembly.
