Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu Commends Governor Monday Okpebholo’s Security Drive, Salutes Police Over Swift Arrest in Vegetable Market Kidnap Case, Calls for Collective Action Against Crime

Benin City — Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for demonstrating strong political will and decisive leadership in the wake of the kidnapping at the vegetable market off Airport Road last Sunday. The swift arrest of suspects involved in the abduction of a middle-aged woman from the market reflects a government that is serious about protecting lives and restoring public confidence.

Pastor Ize-Iyamu noted that this development underscores the Governor’s commitment to making security the foundation of good governance in Edo State. “When leadership acts promptly, criminals are denied the space to operate. Governor Okpebholo’s administration has shown that Edo will not tolerate lawlessness or attacks on innocent citizens,” he said.

He also extended special appreciation to the Anti-Cultism and Anti-Kidnapping Units of the Nigeria Police Force, and the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, for their professionalism, intelligence-led operation, and inter-agency coordination. “Their courage and dedication remind us that our security agencies have the capacity to deliver results when properly supported and motivated,” Pastor Ize-Iyamu added.

“This arrest sends a clear political and moral message: Edo State will not be a safe haven for criminals. Those who choose the path of violence, abduction, and extortion must know that the long arm of the law will catch up with them. Under this administration, crime will meet resistance at every turn,” he declared.

Beyond commendation, Pastor Ize-Iyamu called on citizens to play their part in securing the state. He urged the public to remain security conscious at all times and to report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies without hesitation. He also charged owners of houses, especially commercial premises, markets, and business complexes, to install CCTV cameras in and around their properties. “Technology, vigilance, and community cooperation are critical weapons in this fight. CCTV footage has become vital for investigations and acts as a strong deterrent to crime,” he explained.

He concluded by reaffirming that the safety of traders, families, farmers, and all residents must remain non-negotiable. “With the support of our people and the resolve of this government, we will build an Edo where everyone can go about their lawful business without fear. Security is not just the duty of government — it is the responsibility of all of us,” Pastor Ize-Iyamu stated.
