RESPECT PARTY PROCESS AND DUE DILIGENCE: EDO SOUTH APC SENATORIAL PRIMARY REMAINS UNSETTLED AS NWC CONSIDERS PETITION; STAKEHOLDERS WARN AGAINST FALSE NARRATIVES
PRESS RELEASE
Date: Sunday, 14th June 2026
From: Hon. Alfred Agbonifo, Oredo LGA, Edo State
EDO SOUTH APC SENATORIAL TICKET: NO CONFIRMATION YET, PETITION BEFORE NWC PENDING
I wish to set the record straight regarding statements credited to Hon. Eugene Utubor, Special Adviser on Political Matters, Mobilization and Engagement, Edo State Government, congratulating Hon. Ogbeide Ihama as the “confirmed APC Senatorial Candidate for Edo South”.
As of today, Sunday 14th June 2026, the matter has not been decided and no confirmation has been issued by the APC National Working Committee (NWC).
For clarity, there is a subsisting petition before the NWC filed by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, which is currently being considered diligently in line with party constitution and guidelines. Until the NWC concludes its review and publishes the final list, any declaration of a candidate is premature, misleading, and disrespectful to the party’s internal processes.
I therefore call on the APC National Working Committee to expedite its consideration and release the final list of Edo South Senatorial Primaries without delay. This will lay the matter to rest and allow party faithful across Edo South to plan their next political strategy ahead of the 2027 general election.
I also urge all government appointees and party stakeholders to exercise restraint and refrain from making public declarations that preempt the NWC. Party discipline and due process must guide our actions at all times.
*Signed,*
Hon. Alfred Agbonifo
Stakeholder, APC Oredo LGA
Edo South Senatorial District
