WHEN SUCCESS BREEDS PRIDE: THE SPIRITUAL DANGER OF BETRAYAL, REBELLION, AND FORGETTING THE SOURCE OF YOUR LIFTING

One of the greatest tragedies in life is not failure itself, but allowing success to become the reason for failure.
Many people began with humility, gratitude, and a genuine desire to serve God and humanity. Yet, the moment they attained influence, wealth, authority, or recognition, they forgot the very purpose for which those blessings were entrusted to them. Instead of becoming instruments of service, they became tools of self-glorification, oppression, intimidation, and promoters of unrighteousness.
The Bible reminds us:
«"A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven." — John 3:27»
Everything we have—our gifts, influence, position, wealth, connections, and achievements—is a gift from God. None of us arrived where we are by our own strength alone. Every open door has a Divine Hand behind it.
Lucifer is the greatest example of a gifted being who misunderstood the purpose of his greatness. He was created with beauty, wisdom, and honor, yet he failed to understand that everything he possessed existed to glorify his Creator. Pride entered his heart. Greed took over his mind. He desired not only to serve but to replace God. He wanted the worship that belonged to Jehovah alone and sought to establish a kingdom independent of his Master.
The Scripture records his ambition:
«"For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God..." — Isaiah 14:13-15»
His end was not promotion but destruction. Pride turned an anointed cherub into a fallen one.
Sadly, this same spirit still operates today.
We see it in politics. Many leaders rise because someone believed in them, gave them a platform, structure, guidance, and support. But once they taste power, they rewrite history. They forget the hands that lifted them and begin to fight the very people and principles that made their rise possible. They justify their actions with convincing speeches, drawing followers into error while presenting betrayal as wisdom.
We also see this spirit in ministry. Spiritual fathers invest prayers, time, sacrifice, and mentorship into raising sons and daughters. Yet some eventually turn around to attack, dishonor, and destroy what they once celebrated. They forget that honor opened the doors they now walk through.
This same pattern has spread into families, marriages, friendships, workplaces, institutions, and every sphere of society. Loyalty has become scarce, while betrayal is increasingly celebrated. It appears as though a generation is gradually being trained to see disloyalty as intelligence and rebellion as courage.
But God's principles never change.
The law of sowing and reaping remains in force.
«"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." — Galatians 6:7»
Whether one is a politician, pastor, businessperson, church member, employee, or follower, betrayal carries consequences. No amount of influence can exempt anyone from the harvest of the seeds they sow.
One lesson I, P. Michael, have learned through life's experiences is this: never allow the counsel of an enemy to make you betray a genuine friend. Many destinies have been destroyed because they listened to voices that encouraged rebellion instead of gratitude, pride instead of humility, and division instead of loyalty.
May God preserve our hearts from pride after promotion.
May we never forget those God used as instruments for our lifting.
May we remain humble when we become successful, loyal when we become influential, and grateful when God enlarges our territory.
Above all, may our lives continually bring glory to God, the One from whom every good and perfect gift proceeds.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, deliver us from the spirit of pride, rebellion, ingratitude, and betrayal. Help us to remember that every blessing comes from You. Give us the grace to remain humble in success, faithful in relationships, loyal to those You have used to bless us, and committed to serving humanity for Your glory. May we never exchange honor for pride or loyalty for selfish ambition. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
