EDO AT 35: A NEW EDO HAS RISEN — ADVANCING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, INCLUSIVE GROWTH AND THE SDGs UNDER THE SHINE AGENDA

SDGs OFFICE CELEBRATES EDO AT 35

A New Edo Has Risen

By Amina Ebor

The *Office of the Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs*, led by *Hon. Sally Suleiman*, joins millions of admirers to congratulate *His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo*, Governor of Edo State, and the good people of Edo as we mark *35 years* since the creation of our dear state

*Edo is proud and has risen!*

The creation of Edo State on *August 27, 1991*, was a defining moment in our history. Thirty-five years later, we celebrate not only how far we have come, but also the responsibility we carry to build on the foundation laid by those before us and create an even better future for generations to come.

Edo is blessed with a rich cultural heritage, talented and resilient people, vast economic potential, and a strategic position that gives us an important role in Nigeria’s development. Our greatest strength, however, remains our people — their courage, creativity, enterprise and determination to see our state prosper.

Under the leadership of *Senator Monday Okpebholo*, the *SHINE Agenda* is delivering practical results across the *18 Local Government Areas* and *3 Senatorial Districts*:

Security, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Natural Resources & Agriculture, Education, Human Capital Development and Economic Growth.

We are strengthening institutions, improving critical infrastructure, investing in our people, and creating the conditions for businesses and industries to thrive.

The Edo State Government is building on the partnership of the private sector, civil society, and every Edo citizen who has contributed in one way or another to the growth and development of our state.

*SDGs COMMITMENT & RESPONSIBILITIES*

In line with our vision and mission, the *SDGs Office* remains committed to domesticating and implementing the *17 Sustainable Development Goals* in Edo State. Our core responsibilities include:

1. *Poverty & Hunger*: Implementing programs to eradicate poverty and ensure food security through agriculture and social investment.

2. *Health & Education*: Improving access to quality healthcare and basic education, especially for women, children and vulnerable groups.

3. *Gender Equality & Inclusion*: Empowering women, youths and Persons with Disabilities to participate fully in governance and economic life.

4. *Clean Water, Energy & Infrastructure*: Supporting the expansion of potable water, renewable energy, and sustainable urban/rural infrastructure.

5. *Jobs & Innovation*: Promoting decent work, entrepreneurship, digital skills and innovation for our young people.

6. *Climate Action & Environment*: Driving policies for environmental protection, climate resilience, and sustainable use of our natural resources.

7. *Peace, Partnership & Data*: Fostering peace, strengthening partnerships with MDAs, CSOs, private sector and development partners, and tracking progress through data.

Through these interventions, we are aligning Edo State with global best practices while ensuring that *No One Is Left Behind* in the _SHINE Agenda_.

As we celebrate *35 years of impactful service*, I call on all Edo people to remain united and committed. Together, we will achieve our goals, objectives, and full potential.

On behalf of the *Office of the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals*, I wish all Edo people a peaceful, prosperous, and memorable *35th Anniversary*.

*Happy 35th Anniversary, Edo State.*

*A New Edo Has Risen.*
