UBTH inducts new nurses, charges graduates on professional excellence -August 27, 2026 BENIN CITY -
The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has inducted the 2025/2026 graduating class of its College of Nursing Sciences, with the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, urging the new nurses to uphold the values of compassion, competence, integrity and selfless service.
Prof. Ize-Iyamu gave the charge at the induction and oath-taking ceremony held at the UBTH TETFund Building, where she described nursing as one of the noblest professions known to humanity.
She congratulated the inductees for successfully completing the demanding academic and clinical training required to enter the profession, noting that their journey had tested their knowledge, skills, resilience and character.
According to her, becoming a nurse goes beyond acquiring professional qualifications, as the profession places a significant responsibility on practitioners to provide not only competent healthcare but also empathy, reassurance, dignity and hope to patients.
“Today, you stand ready to join one of the noblest professions known to humanity,” she said.
The UBTH CMD urged the new nurses to see their induction oath as a commitment to professional excellence and responsible service, stressing that society places enormous trust in nurses.
She further challenged them to embrace lifelong learning and remain adaptable as advances in digital health, artificial intelligence, precision medicine, telehealth, simulation-based learning and evidence-based practice continue to transform healthcare delivery.
Prof. Ize-Iyamu said their ability to keep learning and adapt to emerging developments would be essential to their effectiveness and relevance in the rapidly changing healthcare environment.
