EDO LAWMAKERS SEAL COMMITMENT TO A CLEANER, GREENER, MORE BEAUTIFUL EDO STATE

 

In a landmark move that signals a new dawn for environmental transformation in Edo, the Edo State House of Assembly has passed the much-anticipated Bill for a Law to Establish the Edo State Parks and Gardens Agency and for other related matters.

The bill, which sailed through after clause-by-clause consideration at the Committee of the Whole, was unanimously embraced by the lawmakers as a bold step toward building a sustainable and aesthetically pleasing state. By this action, the Assembly has sealed its commitment to Governor Monday Okpebholo’s vision of a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful Edo, ensuring that the dream of an environmentally renewed state becomes reality.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, while directing the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Yahaya Audu Omogbai, to produce clean copies for onward transmission to the Governor for assent, described the bill as *“a gift that will outlive generations, beautifying our state and redefining our environment.”*

For the people of Edo, this development is not just about flowers and trees, it is about jobs, healthier living, improved tourism, and a renewed identity. With the law, public spaces, parks, gardens, and green belts across our state will no longer be abandoned wastelands but vibrant centers of life, recreation, and pride.

Speaking shortly after the passage, the Managing Director of the Agency, Pastor Stanley-Dave Ighodaro, could not hide his excitement. He commended the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Agbebaku, and the entire leadership of the House for their vision and responsiveness to the yearnings of the people. He further reassured Edo citizens of Governor Okpebholo’s unwavering commitment to turning Edo into one of the greenest, cleanest, and most beautiful states in Nigeria. 

 “This is history in the making,” Pastor Ighodaro declared. “The Governor’s dream of a state where every road, every public institution, and every community is marked byput greenery, parks, and modern gardens is now within reach. The law has given us the instrument to act—and we will act decisively".

For the civil servant walking through Ring Road, the trader in New Benin, the student in Ekpoma, or the farmer in Auchi, the message is the same: a greener Edo means better air, cooler environments, increased tourism revenue, and fresh opportunities for livelihoods.

This milestone is not just legislative housekeeping, it is a covenant between government and people, ensuring that the next generation inherits a state that is not only prosperous but also beautiful and environmentally secure.
