HONOURING A DISTINGUISHED SON OF EDO AND LEADER AT 70.
A Birthday Tribute from Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Famous Adesuwa Osawaru.
Today, Friday, August 8th, 2025, we celebrate a rare breed of leader and a trailblazer in Nigeria’s democratic evolution, Senator Aisagbonriodion Matthew Urhoghide. Turning 70 is not just a personal milestone; it is a moment of reflection on a life lived in devoted service to the people, to justice, and to the progress of our nation.
Senator Urhoghide’s public journey is marked by decades of integrity, consistency, and patriotic commitment. From his youthful activism in student leadership to his instrumental role in national politics, he has remained an advocate for democratic ideals. His voice has never wavered in moments that called for courage, most notably during the 1993 election struggles and in the halls of the National Assembly where he served Edo people with honour.
His distinguished service as Chairman of the Management Board of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital and his impactful tenure in the Senate are just a few chapters in a long story of selfless service. Most recently, as Director General of the Edo 2024 Governorship Campaign Council, he played a pivotal role in securing victory for the APC and the emergence of Senator Monday Okpebholo as Governor of Edo State. That success bears his strategic imprint and enduring wisdom.
On this landmark occasion, I, Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Famous Adesuwa Osawaru, Member representing Orhionmwon and Uhunmwonde Federal Constituency, join the good people of Edo State and Nigerians at large to extend my heartfelt congratulations to a respected elder statesman. I pray that God will continue to bless him with strength, peace, and grace in this new chapter of life.
May his journey continue to inspire the next generation of leaders to embrace public service with dignity and purpose.
Happy 70th Birthday, Senator Urhoghide. Congratulations!
Signed,
Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru.
Chairman, House Of Representatives Committee On Cooperation and Integration in Africa.
