Edo Residents Hail Okpebholo over Transformational Projects in Benin City

Residents in Benin City,the Edo State Capital, weekend came out en masse in wild jubilation to welcome the state Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo,who was on an inspection of some ongoing projects across the Edo South Senatorial District.

This the locals said was a way to say thank you for the pace and quality of work done.

Speaking during the inspection, the governor described the progress recorded on key infrastructure projects as evidence of his administration’s commitment to people-oriented development, aimed at opening up the city, improving living conditions, and delivering practical governance to the people.

Governor Okpebholo said while inspecting the Ikpoba Hill flyover, "So far, so good. Everything is working perfectly well here,” 

“All the beams have been installed, and within eight to nine months, we have gone this far. I am amazed at the level of work going on here.”

He attributed the steady progress to effective funding and timely payment of contractors, noting that development can only be achieved by focusing on the needs of the people.

“That is exactly why we are here, to develop our city. As long as funding continues, contractors will be paid and work will move fast. You can see people coming out to cheer because they can see the work. This is a practical way of doing things,” he said.

At Oba Market, Governor Okpebholo expressed satisfaction with the ongoing reconstruction, noting that significant improvements had been recorded since his last visit. He disclosed that the project would be completed within five to six months, after which traders and market women would return to the market to resume their businesses.

“The assessment of the Oba Market reconstruction is satisfactory. A lot has changed since the last time we were here, and the contractor has assured us that in about five to six months, traders will move back into the market,” the governor said, adding that work would also extend to the other section of the market to ensure full completion.

As the governor moved through various project sites, including Palace Uteh Road, Temboga Road, Upper Mission Extension, Upper Mission Extension junction by Aduwawa, and Arch Charismatic Road at Ekenhuan, residents lined the streets, cheering, singing, and offering prayers for the success of his administration.

At the Temboga axis, which had suffered severe erosion for over eight years, residents praised the Okpebholo-led administration for restoring the area and allowing displaced property owners to return to their homes.

An elated resident, who identified herself simply as Mrs. Esther, said the intervention had restored hope and trust in government.

She said, “For over eight years, we lived in fear whenever it rained because erosion almost swept away our homes. Today, all those fears are gone. I have never seen a governor with this level of compassion. What the governor has done here has changed my life and restored our dignity.”

She added that the governor’s action had inspired her to participate in the democratic process, describing the intervention as a rescue from years of hardship.

Traders at Oba Market also commended the administration for the reconstruction of the market, describing the project as timely and people-focused, with improved facilities that would enhance their business activities once completed.

The inspection tour ended with renewed assurances from the governor that his administration would continue to prioritise infrastructure projects that directly impact the lives of Edo people.
