Equity, Justice, and History: Why Orhionmwon Must Produce the Next Edo South Senator

 

For over five decades, the people of Edo South Senatorial District have been represented in the National Assembly by a select few Local Government Areas—namely Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, Ovia North East, Ovia South West, and Uhunmwode. A careful review of the historical record of senators from 1966 to date reveals a glaring and unacceptable reality which shows that not a single senator from Orhionmwon Local Government Area has ever occupied the Edo South seat in the Nigerian Senate.

This is not a matter of chance, it is a pattern of political marginalization that has persisted for 57 years. While other LGAs have produced multiple senators—some even returning for second and third terms—Orhionmwon has been systematically overlooked. This is not equity. This is not fairness. And it is certainly not the inclusive democracy that the All Progressives Congress (APC) claims to champion. The time has come to break this cycle of exclusion.

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a distinguished chieftain of our great party, hails from Orhionmwon LGA. His pedigree is unimpeachable: a former Chief of Staff to the Edo State Government, a former Secretary to the State Government, a former governorship candidate, and a pastor of integrity. He has paid his dues in the struggle to build the APC in Edo State.

But beyond his credentials lies a deeper argument—JUSTICES. Giving Pastor Ize-Iyamu the Edo South senatorial ticket is not merely a political calculation; it is an act of reparation. It tells the good people of Orhionmwon that their loyalty, their votes, and their existence matter. To deny Pastor Ize-Iyamu the ticket now is to deliberately perpetuate an ancient injustice.

Conclusion : 

The APC has an opportunity to make history—not by presenting a candidate from overrepresented areas, but by boldly embracing equity. Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is not just the most qualified candidate from Orhionmwon; he is the only candidate who can heal this 57-year-old wound.

Let the Edo South senatorial ticket go to Orhionmwon. Let Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu be the voice that finally speaks for the forgotten LGA and Edo South at large.

Justice delayed is justice denied. The time for Orhionmwon is now.
