Edo South May Slip Away From APC If Ize-Iyamu Is Not On The Ballot - The ruling party must rethink its strategy. The Senatorial District is the most politically enlightened and sophisticated zone in the State of Edo.
First and foremost, before it is assumed that I am not from the area, I wish to clearly state that I am aware and fully acknowledge that I am from Edo Central Senatorial District. However, as a political analyst, I reserve the right to express my opinion, provided it does not infringe on the rights of others. After all, I am a resident in Edo South Senatorial District. Ultimately, the decision to accept or reject such views rests solely with those directly concerned.
Having stated the above clearly, let me elucidate by saying, politics is not merely about party structures, slogans, or propaganda. It is fundamentally about people, influence, acceptance, and strategic calculations. As preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) must critically evaluate the realities on ground in Edo South Senatorial District. One undeniable reality is that Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu remains one of the strongest political brands the APC has produced in Edo State. Ignoring such an asset at this critical time could cost the party dearly.
Over the years, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has built an extensive political network that cuts across wards, local governments, youth groups, women’s associations, religious bodies, professionals, and grassroots mobilizers. Regardless of individual opinions about his politics, it is difficult to deny his relevance and enduring acceptance among a large segment of the electorate. His ability to connect with ordinary people, articulate policies, and sustain political loyalty has made him a household name not only in Edo South but across the entire state.
The APC must understand that elections in Edo South are not won on party symbols alone. They are won by candidates with strong grassroots structures, genuine emotional connection with voters, and the capacity to mobilize support beyond party lines. Pastor Ize-Iyamu has repeatedly demonstrated these qualities. His presence on the ballot would naturally energize APC supporters, attract undecided voters, and strengthen the party’s chances in the senatorial contest. Without him, the party may struggle to generate the same level of enthusiasm and coordination needed to secure victory.
Another factor the APC leadership cannot ignore is internal party stability. Political exclusion often creates dissatisfaction, division, and silent protest within party ranks. Many loyal supporters of Pastor Ize-Iyamu across Edo South may feel alienated if he is sidelined despite his longstanding contributions to the party’s growth and survival. Such disappointment can weaken campaign structures, reduce turnout among party faithful, and indirectly benefit opposition parties waiting to capitalize on APC’s internal disagreements.
One key factor currently working in favour of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is the strong preference among many stakeholders in Edo South Senatorial District for locally rooted representation and their resistance to any perception of externally imposed candidates, particularly those believed to be backed from outside the state such as influences linked to Rivers State; within this context, such perceptions can attract resistance and affect voter sentiment, while Ize-Iyamu’s established political presence within Edo State and the APC structure gives him a comparative advantage in aligning party interests with local expectations, thereby strengthening his position in internal party considerations ahead of any election, though failure by the party to reflect these local sentiments may push some stakeholders to explore alternative political options outside the party.
It is also important to remember that Edo South remains one of the most politically sensitive zones in Edo State. The opposition will certainly field formidable candidates with strong local appeal and financial backing. In such a competitive environment, the APC cannot afford to gamble with experimentation or political sentiments. The party needs a tested and experienced figure capable of matching opposition strength politically, intellectually, and strategically. Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has the experience and electoral exposure for that battle.
Beyond politics, Pastor Ize-Iyamu has maintained a reputation for accessibility, generosity, and consistent engagement with community stakeholders. Many see him as a bridge-builder with the capacity to unite diverse interests within the party and across communities. This goodwill is valuable political capital that the APC should harness rather than discard. Politics rewards loyalty, consistency, and strategic inclusion. A party that neglects its strongest mobilizers risks weakening itself from within.
The APC leadership at both the state and national levels must therefore approach the Edo South Senatorial ticket with wisdom, consultation, and political realism. Decisions driven by narrow interests or temporary alliances can produce long-term electoral consequences. If the APC truly wants to retain and strengthen its influence in Edo South, it must ensure that credible, popular, and politically formidable personalities like Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu remain central to its calculations.
The road to victory in 2027 will not be easy for any party. It will require unity, strategic planning, grassroots mobilization, and candidates with proven capacity. In Edo South, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu remains one of those personalities. Removing such a force from the ballot may not only weaken APC’s chances but could ultimately hand victory to the opposition. The earlier the party recognizes this reality, the better for its future in Edo South Senatorial District.
