UBTH HONOURS NMA PRESIDENT, PROF. AFEKHIDE OMOTI, WITH COMMEMORATIVE PHOTO BOOK AS PARTNERSHIP WITH ASSOCIATION DEEPENS

The Management of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) today received the President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Prof. Afekhide Ernest Omoti, during a courtesy visit to the hospital following his historic emergence as the National President of the Association.
The visit, which took place at the hospital's management headquarters in Benin City, was marked by goodwill, appreciation, and renewed commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Nigerian Medical Association and one of Nigeria’s foremost tertiary healthcare institutions.
As part of the occasion, the Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, presented a specially produced commemorative photo book to Prof. Omoti. The publication captured memorable moments and highlights from the grand reception and dinner organized by the hospital community in celebration of his election as President of the Nigerian Medical Association.
The symbolic presentation reflected UBTH's pride in Prof. Omoti's remarkable achievement and underscored the institution's confidence in his capacity to provide visionary leadership for the nation's medical profession at a critical period in Nigeria's healthcare journey.
Prof. Omoti, a distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology and Honorary Consultant at UBTH, emerged victorious during the 66th Annual General Conference and Delegates Meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association, securing a decisive victory to become the Association's National President for the 2026–2028 tenure.
Welcoming the NMA President and his delegation, Prof. Ize-Iyamu reaffirmed UBTH's commitment to supporting initiatives that advance healthcare delivery, professional excellence, medical education, research, and the welfare of healthcare workers across Nigeria.
She noted that Prof. Omoti's emergence was not only a personal achievement but also a source of immense pride to UBTH, Edo State, and the entire medical community. According to her, his decades of service, commitment to medical advocacy, academic excellence, and healthcare leadership have prepared him adequately for the enormous responsibility of leading the nation's foremost medical association.
The CMD further described the commemorative photo book as a lasting reminder of the overwhelming support, admiration, and goodwill extended to the NMA President by colleagues, friends, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate his election victory during the special reception hosted by UBTH.
Speaking during the visit, Prof. Omoti expressed appreciation to the Management and staff of UBTH for the honour accorded him since his emergence as NMA President. He commended the hospital leadership for its unwavering support and pledged to continue advocating policies that would strengthen Nigeria's healthcare system, improve doctors' welfare, promote professional unity, and address critical challenges confronting the health sector.
