Xenophobic Attack; Hon. Osawaru Takes Strong Stance Against Xenophobia And Hate Crimes by South Africans.

As Chairman, House committee on cooperation and integration in Africa, Hon. Chief Dr Billy Adesuwa Osawaru berated the South African Government's docility in tackling xenophobic attacks and hate crimes despite repeated diplomatic interventions.

While seconding a motion of urgent National Importance, the very infuriated Hon. Billy Osawaru highlighted statistical data on the number of Nigerians and Africans who have been killed in the unabating xenophobic and hate attacks in South Africa. He amended the motion by adding additional stiffer prayers which include;

* To urge the federal government of Nigeria to review all bilateral, trade, and aviation agreements with South Africa, including the temporary suspension of issuance of business permits to new South African holdings and a review of tax incentives enjoyed by existing South African companies in Nigeria.

* To mandate the House committees on foreign affairs, Diaspora, and cooperation/Integration in Africa to liaise with the Nigerian high commission in Pretoria to establish a 24-hour emergency response desk and legal aid fund for distressed Nigerians in South Africa, and liaise with the federal government to develop and publicize an evacuation contingency plan for Nigerians in volatile regions.

* Among other prayers....

Hon. Billy Osawaru's tough position is hinged on the fact that the killing of Nigerians in Xenophobic Attacks undermines our sovereignty, dents our international image, and constitutes an affront to the dignity of the Nigerian state as the Xenophobic attacks should no longer be treated with kid gloves.
