FROM 18 TO 22: HON. BILLY OSAWARU CHAMPIONS THE CREATION OF NEW LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS IN ORHIONMWON & UHUNMWODE, LEADING A BOLD MOVE TO CORRECT EDO’S POLITICAL IMBALANCE AND BRING GOVERNANCE CLOSER TO THE PEOPLE
Getting Our Priorities Right: Hon. Billy Osawaru On a Mission To Correct The Political Imbalances In Edo State.
Critical thinking, innovative leadership, and the ability to identify deficiencies, recognise imbalances, and respond to the genuine needs of the people are among the defining qualities of effective representation.
For decades, Edo State has operated within a political and administrative structure that has increasingly fallen out of step with the realities of its population, landmass, and communities. While neighbouring states seem to have gotten their local government structures right and consequently brought governance and representation closer to their people, Edo has remained with just 18 local government areas.
The consequence is an administrative imbalance that deserves deliberate and progressive correction.
It is against this backdrop that the representation of Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru, Member of the House of Representatives for Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency, stands out. He is on record as the only member of the National Assembly from Edo State to have taken the bold legislative initiative of seeking to address this longstanding imbalance through the creation of additional local government areas in Edo State.
His bill for an Act to create additional local government areas in Edo South is already progressing on the floor of the House. Beyond being a legislative proposal, it represents a deliberate attempt to rethink Edo State's administrative structure and create a framework that can bring government closer to the people, strengthen grassroots development, and expand opportunities for effective political representation.
The proposed local government areas to be carved out of the existing Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency include:
* Umagbae Local Government Area
* Akugbe Local Government Area
* Uhunmwode Local Government Area
* Orhionmwon South Local Government Area
* Orhionmwon East Local Government Area
* Nosaibo Local Government Area
When successfully created, the new local government structure would increase the number of local government areas in Edo State from 18 to 22, with the broader objective of bringing governance closer to communities and strengthening representation at the grassroots.
This is what purposeful representation looks like: seeing beyond today's political realities, identifying structural deficiencies, and having the courage to initiate reforms that can benefit generations yet unborn.
But Hon. Osawaru's legislative record extends beyond this landmark initiative. He has also demonstrated competence and excellence in the core responsibilities of a federal legislator, making meaningful contributions to the development and representation of his constituency while pursuing initiatives with wider implications for Edo State.
There is therefore a compelling reason to sustain this trajectory. Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru deserves a second term, not merely as a reward for what he has done, but as a mandate to consolidate ongoing initiatives, finish strong, and pursue the full realisation of the legislative reforms he has begun.
VOTE for the Proud Benin Chief.
Re-Elect Hon. Billy Osawaru.
VOTE for Continuity and Consolidation.
VOTE APC.
